Kulongoski Support Swells With New Labor Endorsements

For Immediate Release, April 19, 2006

Portland,OR - The Pacific Northwest Regional Council of Carpenters 247 & 2154, Oregon State Police Officers Association and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) have thrown their support behind Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ted Kulongoski’s reelection bid.

"I am proud to have the support of so many union members and their families carrying us towards victory on Election Day," Kulongoski said.

"Ted is on the side of working families fighting for issues like affordable health care, workers' rights and a good standard of living for Oregonians," said Pete Savage, regional manager of the Pacific NW Regional Council of Carpenters "We need four more years of Ted’s leadership to win that fight."

“He doesn’t just talk about outsourcing, he does something to fix the problem,” said Jeff Smith, president of the ILWU District Council. “When he discovered that Oregon was outsourcing state calls to a center in India, he stepped in and stopped it,” Smith added.
The ILWU is just the latest union endorsement Kulongoski has received. Others include the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Locals 48, 112, 280, 932, 659, 89, the United Food and Commercial Workers and Joint Council of Teamsters, Local 75. (A full listing of Kulongoski’s labor endorsements and record follows this release.)

“This reflects the strong grassroots support Ted has earned throughout the state," said campaign spokesperson Lisa Grove. "As a former union member, labor lawyer and lifetime advocate for Oregon workers, Kulongoski is the clear choice for Oregon’s working families."
